Following protests about the difficulty of meeting
above-inflation increases in Council Tax, the Chancellor announced
that there will be an addition of £100 to the winter fuel
payments for pensioners over the age of 70. The increases in
personal age allowances are above the rate of inflation, which
should remove some pensioners from the charge to tax.
